Hanoi hosts Pre-UNCTAD XII
conference
Nhan Dan - Hanoi, Vietnam, March
07, 2008
An international conference is
being held in Hanoi on March 6-7 on the occasion of the forthcoming
quadrennial meeting of the United Nations Conference on Trade and
Development (UNCTAD XII) scheduled to be held in Accra, Ghana, on
April 20-25.
The two-day conference, organised
by the Consumer Unity and Trust Society (CUTS International), an
Indian non-governmental organisation, focuses discussions on issues
of the linkages between trade, development and poverty reduction.
Delegates from civil society
organisations of Asian countries exchanged views of the
globalisation impacts and issues related to trade and development,
production capacity and UNCTAD’s role.
According to CUTS International,
the conference will collect suggestions to send to the UNCTAD XII.
CUTS International with supports
from the UK’s Department for International Development and the
Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2005 has been carrying
a project on linkages between trade, development and poverty
reduction.
The project includes research
activities and the dissemination of information about the
development process of developing countries during the globalisation
process. (VNA)
