Business groups want two more

Indo-Bangladesh business groups
have decided to pursue for development of Mongla and Ashuganj port
as alternative connectivity to handle regional trade traffic
besides, Chittagong Sea port.
In stakeholders consultation
meeting on Indo-Bangla Trade: Focus on Northeast here on Sunday
organised by Jaipur based Consumer Utility & Trust Society (CUTS),
the trade groups of both the country identified several issues for
immediate decision at highest political level in both the countries.
The traders of both the country has
demanded to finalise transit or transshipment issue as soon as
possible minimising facilitation controversy among the neighbours
while pressed for the demand for extension of air connectivity
between Northeastern states and Dhaka to facilitate trade and
tourism in the region.
It said that Ministry of
Development of Northeast Region (DoNER) would shortly going to start
regional airlines connecting all the capital towns of all
northeastern states but if it would extend the service at least
twice in a week that to be beneficial for trade development.
Head of CUTS, Trade, Economics and
Environment Sidhartha Mitra pointed out that trade growth between
Northeast and Bangladesh could be further enhanced through boost to
its fledging manufacturing sectors by promoting Bangladeshi market
and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from Bangladesh along with
extending facilities of accessing to markets in outside Northeast
India through Bangladesh.
Justifying the Focus on Tripura he
said that rich in natural gas had the potential of power exporter to
Bangladesh besides, tremendous potential for expansion of
horticultural and plantation crops.
