Capacity Building

Capacity building refers to activities that improve an organisation’s ability to achieve its mission or a person’s ability to define and realize her/his goals and/or to do her/his job more effectively. The Centre encourages its staff to build their capacity in various forms e.g. through Friday Seminars, Participation, etc.

Recently three staff members of the Centre are selected for e-learning courses of the World Bank Institute.

WBI’s E-Learning Courses

World Bank Institute (WBI) offers e-learning courses periodically for civil society and government officials on a number of sectors and themes.

Simi T.B. was selected to participate in the Trade, Growth and Poverty course. The Course was for approx 2 months i.e from 29 October to 22 December 2006. The course explored some of the analytical and policy issues related to the impact of trade liberalization on economic growth and poverty reduction. The course included modules drawn from Bank studies, WBI-commissioned overview papers, and non-Bank seminal works, including critical perspectives on the relationship among trade, development, and poverty. The course also made extensive use of case studies from around the world, dedicating two modules to reviewing country evidence and simulations. This course was very informative and useful.

Prashmita Ghosh and Suprita Jayaram were selected to participate in the online Trade and Gender course, which was delivered from 29 October to 17 November 2006. The course aimed to understand how the linkages between trade liberalisation, economic growth and poverty affect gender issues and the consequences they may have on women. Such a global interactive platform enabled a rich discussion on international development issues and gender related problems.
